VIAS - Vienna Institute for Archaeological Science
The Vienna Institute for Archaeological Science (VIAS), founded in 1992, represents an innovative and transdisciplinary research institution at the University of Vienna.
The aim of VIAS is to continuously develop and integrate scientific methods and to dynamically integrate them into the culture-orientated environment of archaeology as a historical discipline. VIAS offers support, expertise and opportunities for cooperation in a wide range of multidisciplinary research programmes and projects.
VIAS is active in the fields of archaeometry, bioarchaeology, materials science and archaeological prospection. Our researchers specialise in areas such as archaeometallurgy, scanning electron microscopy, the analysis of precious metals, archaeobotany, archaeozoology, archaeometric ceramic analysis, stable isotope analysis, experimental archaeology, geophysical archaeological prospection on land and on water, and digital archaeological documentation methods.
