The latrine
In 1354 Duke Albrecht II permitted to the Augustinian-hermits the construction of a latrine in the area of their monastery. The fact that the Augustinian-tower was used for this purpose is proved by the archaeological layers in the tower. These layers contained an extremely amount of archaeological finds. Beside large quantities of pottery, bone, glass, wood and leather also botanical remains have been preserved in this moist, air-locked environment.
The latrine in the Augustian-tower is the only proven medieval one in Vienna so far.
