Heritage Day 2011

On Heritage Day (25th of September 2011), which in this year was dedicated to the topic "OF WOOD", usually inaccessible wooden constructions and art work were presented to the interested public throughout Austria.

As shortly before 111 of the approximately 1000 stilt houses from six nations around the Alps, among them five sites in Upper Austria and Carinthia, had been listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, we were invited by the organizer, the Austrian Federal Monuments Office (
Österreichisches Bundesdenkmalamt) to Seewalchen am Attersee, in order to present the traveling exhibition "From Underwater to Public Attention”. The exhibit presents the mostly wooden remains of Neolithic and Bronze Age settlements, dating methods, such as dendrochronology, as well as underwater archeology and underwater prospection.
