In the year 2000, the Avar burial ground of Frohsdorf (close to the city of Wiener Neustadt) was discovered through aerial photography in the so-called Steinfeld. The aerial photographic analysis resulted in 283 burials within an area of about 3.400 square meters.

To locate the corresponding settlement site, aerial photographs were analysed and field surveys performed.
