In 1999 during construction work for an annex to the building of the Albertina museum archaeological investigations were carried out by the Forschungsgesellschaft Wiener Stadtarchäologie. The Augustinian-tower, part of the medieval town wall, and the moat were unvovered.

VIAS took over the photogrammetric documentation and analysis of the Augustinian-tower.

Within a research project (H-2421/2009) funded by the Hochschuljubiläumsstiftung written and pictorial sources about the Augustinian-tower have been surveyed.
